As part of the professorship for energy design at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences Prof. Dr.-Ing. Heide G. Schuster is offering together with Professor Joost Hartwig a design project on modular buildings.
Project Resource-optimized construction within the master course future-oriented planning and building
Within the schedule of the master course the resource-optimized project helps to practice the interaction between building design and different requirements (functionality, energy efficiency, resource efficiency etc.). Already learned methods and tools will be used as part of the design brief and deepens the knowledge on sustainable building design.
The number of asylum seekers and refugees reaching Germany has risen sharply in recent months. Regardless of their origin, many may remain until a decision on their application for asylum in Germany and must be accommodated for this time. The asylum seekers and refugees are distributed to that end on a fixed scale to the states and from these to the counties and cities. The counties and municipalities are then responsible for the accommodation and care and are paid with fixed rates of payment per person. For accommodation, if not enough housing available in existing buildings available, it is neccessary to quickly build shared accommodations. This is usually done in a modular design with spatially and functionally unsatisfactory solutions that do rarely meet the requirements for a decent accommodation.
The project therefore includes to develop a design for a shared accommodation for asylum seekers meeting the given requirements and including different topics of energy-efficient and resource-efficient buildings. The building concept is to be developed for a site but needs to be in principle transferable.
